The project explores an architectural proportion. Legs like columns, top board as a roof, the table is very large yet very thin.
I make this extremely large table as I would design a small architecture. It measures 9.5m(L) x 2.6m(W) x 1.1 m(H) with a thickness of 3mm for the horizontal surface.
The extremely thin table is made out of aluminum, and would normally bend over with standard construction methods. Therefore, I consider the table’s construction drawn from the calculation of a bend curvature as architectural analysis. Giving the top board a pre defined curvature in the opposite direction to its natural bending allows the gravitation force to make it horizontally flat. Though the table weighs 700kg, it creates a thin structural system like paper crafting.
