The project is located in the city of Manresa, on a plot next to the Pont Nou (New Bridge), one of the main gateways to the city. This area lies near the access point to the river promenade, part of Manresa’s green belt, a natural route of great significance to the city. The site has a pronounced slope that limits its current use but, at the same time, offers a unique opportunity to develop architectural solutions that connect different levels of the terrain.
At present, the area lacks adequate public spaces for the community, and its strategic location underscores the need for a youth center that both welcomes visitors and serves as a meeting point for residents. The new building is intended not only to meet functional requirements but also to strengthen urban cohesion and promote social interaction among the city’s youth.
With the arrival of this new facility, the need to reinterpret this residual space becomes evident, adapting it to the new needs of the young community. A “U”-shaped building is proposed, creating an interior plaza, a protected space for social interaction and relaxation. The roof of the youth center has been designed as a public square that functions as a viewpoint overlooking the river and includes a playground and a café, offering an activity-filled space accessible to everyone.
The aim is to create a new multifunctional public space that improves accessibility and seamlessly integrates the youth center with its immediate surroundings. In doing so, the project seeks to enhance a key area of Manresa, transforming it into a welcoming and communal space that addresses the contemporary needs of the city. Throughout this report, the project’s phases, the adopted design strategies, and the benefits it will bring to the community are detailed.
