In Islev Church, the dark atmosphere of the interior and the beauty of the dimly lit space are cultivated, inspired by the Romanesque churches.
This is seen, among other things, in the restrained curvature of the apse arch and delicate light behind the altar. The large, directionless ceiling construction that supports the roof emphasizes the individual character of the room.
The entrance to the room is through a “forest” of curved steel columns that support the organ pulpit.
The bell chamber and glam holes of the tower are shaped like bricked-up trumpets, thereby softening the sound before it reaches the ear.
A water sculpture with vessels made of corten steel has been erected on the church square.
