The situation of the project for the Casa dell’Accademia consists of two bars that enclose a green space in the middle and includes residential units and common areas for the students of the Academy of Architecture. The project is inserted into the site perpendicular to the road, forming a transition element between the moraine hill above and the road below. At the same time, it is placed between the park of the Cantonal Socio-Psychiatric Organization on one side and the high school campus on the other, articulating the separation between the two existing systems. The project Each bar is conceived as a volume emerging from the ground, horizontal towards the top, degrading following the slope of the land towards the bottom. On the upper floors are the living spaces of the students and, on the ground, the service areas, such as laundries, cellars, etc. On the ground floor are the common room, respectively the bicycle parking, which overlook the central garden. The two stairways that rise from the cantonal road run along the park on both sides, connecting all the levels of the gallery. Stairways, intended as a rapid vertical connection between the galleries, are located at the top of the two buildings at the ends of the galleries. The garden is a space intended for everyone – students and visitors. The gallery in turn serves not only as a circulation system, but also as a terrace shared by all students living on the same floor. The structure is made of concrete. The dwelling The housing units have a more private part – the bedroom – towards the external façade, bathrooms in the middle and a more public part – the kitchen/living area – shared by four students, which overlooks the central gallery. The external façades reflect the rhythm of the cells, while the internal façades have a large glass surface.
