“De Tavse Bygninger by Ole Meyer, an out of print masterpiece published by Aristo in 2000.
De Tavse Bygninger is a sumptuous photo book that shows, in black-and-white images, industrial buildings without an architect: brickworks, sawmills, timber buildings, warehouses and barns, greenhouses and gravel and lime works. The photographs are from a time when the silent buildings were still in operation. Today, most are gone or just silent memories of a production that once was.
It was in the 1960s that the architect and photographer Ole Meyer photographed Danish brickworks, and this gave him a lifelong interest in these buildings, but also in all other forms of commercial construction — the construction that was built without an architect. The photographs of the brickworks are the basis of the book, which now brings together a large selection of Ole Meyer’s photographs.
Ole Meyer practiced as an architect for almost 20 years, from 1960, but in recent years worked exclusively as a photographer. As an architect, Ole Meyer has been responsible for the construction of a number of single-family houses and larger buildings such as Solvangsskolen in Farum (1963-70) and Bella Center in Amager (1973-75).“
